First Sunday of Every Month:

“Thank you” to all who donated food items for our first collection Sunday. The “Hope Chest” will be available the first Sunday of every month to collect items to support the Refuge of Hope meal ministry to the homeless and disadvantaged in downtown Canton. Please stop by the Missions display in the lobby and pick up a bookmark listing the items needed by the Refuge of Hope for donation.

The first Sunday of the month, we will be collecting food and other items listed below to support the Refuge of Hope meal ministry to the homeless and disadvantaged in downtown Canton. Look for the “Hope Chest” in the lobby to place your donated items.

Our Needs List includes:

  • Coffee and creamer/sugar packets;

  • Kool-Aid, lemonade, fruit juices;

  • Canned vegetables and fruit;

  • Cream soups for casseroles (i.e. cream of mushroom, celery or chicken);

  • Staples such as flour, white sugar and brown sugar;

  • Pasta/noodles and jars of spaghetti/tomato sauce;

  • Cans of nacho cheese sauce available at GFS or Sam’s Club;

  • Condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and packets of salt and pepper;

  • Kitchen cleaning supplies and hand sanitizer.

We will begin serving complete dinner meals each Tuesday night at the Refuge starting June 1, and will be requesting donations of specific menu items in advance. Jo Ann Dudra, ROH Meal Manager and Chapel member, will be training volunteers to set up and serve the lunch meal on Friday, April 30.

Workshop for Adult Children of Alcoholic or Abusive Parents -
A presentation by licensed professional counselor, Jim Fedorka

Thursday, March 18  7:00 - 9:00 PM in ABF #3

This is a program that will look at the effects growing up in an alcoholic or abusive home has on people even into their adult lives. Children growing up in these types of families suffer many traumas and consequently devise ways to cope with their pain that may become problems later in their adult life. Some common characteristics of adults who have experienced these childhood traumas are:

  • they judge themselves without mercy

  • they guess at what is normal

  • they lie when it would be just as easy to tell the truth

  • they constantly seek approval and affirmation

  • they over-react to changes over which they have no control

  • they have difficulty with intimate relationships

  • they have difficulty having fun

If you grew up in an alcoholic or abusive home and seem to struggle with life issues, this program may help you understand why and give you some ideas on what to do about it. There is no cost for this workshop, but registration is required so we may prepare materials for you. Walk-ins on the day of the program will be welcome. To register, call Jim Fedorka at (330) 819-9469 and leave your name, e-mail address and phone number.
