Do
not love the world or anything in the world.
If
anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1
John 2:15
Who
in their right mind would love toys more than loving God? Us. Who
enjoys vacations more than enjoying God? Us. Imagine jut how we would
happily "surprise" God by loving Him more than loving
ourselves or what we do or collect.
Not
grumbling here, but I'm so ashamed that God would even hint that I
would do such a thing as love the world, period! This verse is an
accurate reading as to where our commitment is. The whole Bible
reveals His love for us. He's complete in every way. He wants us to
love Him so that our joy is complete!
Things
do trip us up. Remember, He's the provider and the owner of our stuff.
Things are not for us to pile up and keep... but to give back to God
for His use. Even blessings can distract us. Let the word
"precious" be reserved for the Lord Jesus Christ. Then all
the gifts being added to us will stand in line like eagerly awaiting
children to be used in a schoolyard game!
