Miracle of God’s Creation

Today I am thankful that we are nearing the end of another winter. Having grown up in Ashland, Ohio, and having spent pretty much my entire adult life in Stark County, I’m always ready for spring. But I have to admit that winter always provides many examples of the beauty and wonder of God’s creation. -- ice frozen on tree branches caught by the sun, mounds of snow turning ordinary backyards into moonscapes, colorful birds gathering around the feeder. Winter, in its own way, provides unique scenes of nature demonstrating the absolute power of God’s creation.

Nevertheless, some scientists have spent an inordinate amount of time and energy trying to discover how and when the universe came to be, how the earth arrived at its current state, and how humans became so developed. Isn’t it nice to know we don’t need science to answer those questions? As Christians, God’s Word has stood the test of time for us over and over. And the first two chapters of Genesis were not inserted as a careless introduction to the rest of the Bible. And just to make sure we don’t forget – or begin to doubt – it seems that every now and then God creates a scene of nature that takes our breath away. A few Sundays ago, Pastor Bennett commented on the beautiful sunrise he witnessed earlier that morning. He told us all that it served as a reminder that God is the sovereign of the universe.

So, I encourage you to continue to look for signs of the miracle of God’s creation as the last few weeks of winter pass by. And, as spring approaches, so does Easter. Let’s prepare our hearts to give thanks for yet another miracle of God. Isn’t it amazing that our completely holy God who cannot commit sin (or even tolerate it for a single second) has provided a way for us daily sinners to appear so worthy in his sight that He can invite us to be at His side for eternity. Praise God for His mercy and His perfect plan for our salvation.

In Christ,
John Bogniard
