"Trust God and Go"

"Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

Colossians 4:5-6

We’ve all heard the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19, which says, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” It’s a common misunderstanding to think this verse only applies to us if we go to another country, but it does apply to us -- here and now! Whenever I leave my brother-in-law’s house, I am reminded of this when I see the sign over their door which reads, “You are now entering your mission field.”

If we truly believe that we enter our mission field each day we go to work, school, the store or gas station, would it change the way we interact with the people we encounter? Are we available to be used by God? Are we willing to pray and take risks, to “trust God and go?” If we are willing and have a desire to learn and share, God will use us. He will make us able!

Jesus commands us to witness to others, whether in another nation or across the street. Our personal mission fields are different, but God has placed us where we are to make an impact for Him. According to Proverbs 11:30, sharing our faith with others is a wise thing to do. It says, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.” Witnessing pleases God and brings glory to His name. The Lord provides each of us with opportunities each day to share our faith and we should pray and respond to these opportunities with a humble and gentle spirit.

Isaiah 55:10-11 says, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

God’s Word is powerful! When we speak His Word it will not come back void. God’s Word is our most powerful weapon to win others to Christ. The salvation of others is our goal and the love of God is our motivation for sharing what Jesus has done for us. When we are willing to be used by God, He can do amazing things!

In Christ,
Mike Lintner
